FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHAMBER/LUCLEC TO DISCUSS ELECTRICITY SURCHARGE

The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture will host a member engagement with LUCELEC, the St. Lucia Electricity Services Ltd., to discuss the recent increase in the electricity fuel surcharge and its impact on the cost of doing business in Saint Lucia. The engagement is scheduled for June 3rd, 2026 at the Chamber Secretariat, Orange Park Commercial Center Bois D’Orange, gros Islet.

The engagement follows concerns raised by Chamber members regarding rising electricity costs and the resulting operational pressures facing businesses across multiple sectors. In response, the Chamber Secretariat engaged LUCELEC to facilitate a direct and constructive dialogue with the business community.

As a longstanding member of the Chamber and a critical national utility provider, LUCELEC has consistently demonstrated a willingness to engage openly and transparently on matters of national and economic importance. In fact in the last two years LUCELEC has hosted more than three engagements with the Chamber Membership on issues related to the Draft Electricity Supplies Bill around the issue of renewable energy and capacity limits. This session will provide members with an opportunity to better understand the fuel surcharge mechanism, how it is applied, and the factors influencing fluctuations in electricity costs.

The Chamber remains committed to its longstanding role of responsibly representing and advocating on behalf of the private sector through constructive engagement, informed dialogue and strategic partnerships.

Strong interest has already been expressed by members, and the session is expected to generate a meaningful and interactive discussion on one of the key issues currently affecting the local business community.
