The Government of St. Lucia is in the process of reviewing the Electricity Services Act, as well as conducting detailed work on developing a process for setting self- generation of renewable energy limits and operationalizing of the National Energy Transition Strategy. This process is being led on St. Lucia’s behalf by the National Utility Regulatory Commission (NURC). Consultants have been recruited by the OECS Commission, to conduct this important work.
A key element that I am aware is of immense interest and key concern to you, is the setting of self- generation of renewable energy limits, which is currently at 5Kva for residential and 25 Kva for commercial operations.
Chamber representatives have been engaged in this discussion and at this time we believe it is important that members are briefed and invited to make known, their interests and perspectives on this key critical issue. This engagement is extremely important, as St. Lucia seeks to increase the level of renewable energy generated and used on island, and as we move into an era where the carbon footprint and the impact of business on the environment, is increasingly being monitored and questioned, the private sector is being asked to play its part and more importantly take advantage of the lower cost options becoming available.
I therefore invite you to a meeting where the Consultant will present some of their work and you will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the same. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 at 11:00am at the National Utilities Regulatory Commission(NURC) Conference Room, in Sans Souci.
Please advise of your attendance so appropriate arrangements can be made.
