With the Economy working patterns and relationships continuing to evolve, new challenges, situations and questions are continuously arising in the Employer/Employee relationship, creating some unhealed conundrums. The St. Lucia Labour Act, like many in other parts of the world, was not crafted with these emerging trends in working arrangements in mind.

The Chamber has been called on by members to provide guidance and insight on how to address these new issues while respecting the Labour Act. Moreover, they wish to understand how they can act responsibly and respect the spirit of the Act even when it is silent on specific issues. This Seminar will delve into the new and emerging challenges of the "New Normal Workplace" and propose approaches to manage them within an accepted legal framework.

Drawing upon the expertise of esteemed Legal Practitioner Mrs. Cheryl Goddard-Dorville, participants will be provided with up to date information, and guidance on how to tread through the current muddy waters of labor relations. Mrs. Goddard-Dorville has developed an outstanding track record in Labour Law and has graciously shared her knowledge, research findings and practical experience in advising, representing and advancing the causes of clients in Labour Relations and Law with great success over the years. Mrs. Cheryl Goddard-Dorville, is sure to provide great elucidation on this important and vital subject matter.

This workshop will be extremely interactive, permitting participants’ opportunity to discuss lessons learnt, proposed solutions that have been developed and strategies that take account of the new workplace reality created by the pandemic. Targeted areas to be covered include:

  • Employer obligations and implications for adjustments to existing contractual arrangements
  • Managing Emerging and Dynamic Issues in the Work Place
    • Equality at work
    • New synergies between job security and productivity
    • Health and safety and the direct impact of ill health on enterprise
  • Applying Universally Accepted International Standards, where the St. Lucia Labour Act is silent
