A long standing priority issue on the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce's Advocacy Agenda is Law and Order or as it is currently referred to Citizen Safety. Crime has serious negative impact on Business the world over. From direct impact, in terms of robberies to white collar crime, to directly affecting customers and staff, there are the costs of crime where crime prevention and security become large and even unbearable costs of doing business.
While the St. Lucia has so far avoided major violent crime against business in recent times there is a concern that businesses remain vulnerable and the impact of poor citizen safety (high rate of homicide) on the quality of life of citizens, customers and employees, remain a growing concern. The strategies that government have employed over the last few years combined with the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic requires constant adjustment of not just government policy, but private sector responses.
It is in this context the Chamber is convening a Dialogue between members, the Minister of National Security and the Royal St. Lucia Police Force to get an update on the subject of law and order in St. Lucia, performance, progress and challenges ahead.
The Chamber will be hosting an Encounter On Citizen Safety where the the Minister of National Security, Hon. Hermangild Francis and Superintendent George Nicholas of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force will provide updates on their efforts to the private sector and discuss some of challenges facing St. Lucia in that regard going forward.
