The Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture has always seen the smoother working of the Import/ Export business as a central tenant in delivering quality goods to the consumer at reasonable costs. Equally the Chamber has always recognized the importance of protecting the country from potential risks arising from international trade and travel a role that has been generally well managed by the Customs and Excise Department in St. Lucia. Facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods across the border is also a key function of the Customs & Excise Department simultaneously.

The Chamber’s conversation on Trade Facilitation has brought it into contact with its sister organization the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Commerce and Industry who has reported that their Import Export Business is benefiting from improvements to the operations of their St. Kitts and Nevis Customs Excise Department.

What can we learn from the St. Kitts & Nevis Chamber of Commerce and Industry and their Customs and Excise Department?

Are there some best practices among importers and on the side of Customs that St. Lucia can copy?

How does the St. Kitts & Nevis Customs and Excise deliver service warranting such high praise from the private sector?

These and other issues will be discussed and shared at a Chamber Virtual First Executive Luncheon. The Comptroller of the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise Department will share with us the manner in which his Department delivers the two critical demands of “protecting the country from potential risks arising from international trade and travel” while “facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods across the border”.

As the Chamber and its members continue to work with the St. Lucia Customs and Excise Department to bring about improvements to the business of import and export, we take this opportunity to use St. Kitts and Nevis experience as a case study.

Join us via Zoom, during your Lunch Hour to listen to a very informative discussion and presentation that can help us understand what we need to do as business people to make the process of import and export easier and more seamless.
